WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

WAIMUMU BRANCH. The Waimumu Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting in the hall on December 14, twenty-six members being present. . . Mrs Hayward, the president, m opening the meeting extended a cordial welcome to Mesdames Halliday and Wilson (Waitane). At roll-call each member was asked to give a hint on jam making. The competition for the month on lamp shades was won by Miss V. Smith, her entry being beautiful and artistic. Mrs Allan gained second place. Miss Bacon (Gore) gave a most interesting demonstration on marquetry for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

The president then made a presentation of a silver spoon to Mrs C. Robertson who won the prize at Invercargill for the most useful article made from a flour bag. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Allan, Copeland, Maclean, and A. Smith, these ladies supplying afternoon tea.
