GENERAL NOTES. The Tamatea sails for Stewart Island at 10.15 a.m. to-day on her mid-weekly run. She returns in the afternoon, leaving the Island at 2.30 p.m. The Britannia sailed for Stewart Island at 3.45 p.m. yesterday. The Shaw. Savill, Albion steamer Mahia which left Brisbane last week for BlufE is due to berth to-morrow about 5 p.m. to begin her Dominion loading for the Home market.

The Federal Line steamer Hertford should arrive at Bluff from Wellington on Thursday to load for West of England ports. At this port she takes in 12,001) freight carcasses of frozen meat, 7500 crates of cheese, 2500 boxes of butter, 1300 bales of wool, 50 casks of tallow, 275 bales of hemp, 120 bales of tow and 70,000 feet of beech timber. On completion she sails for Lyttelton. The Federal Line steamer Cambridge is also due on Thursday or Friday from Port Chalmers with 740 tons of London cargo for discharge at Bluff. Clearing Wellington yesterday the Union Company's Waipiata after calling at Lyttelton and Dunedin, is due at Bluff on Friday. She will sail in the evening for Dunedin. The Union Company's Wainui is to clear Melbourne this afternoon for Bluff, where she is due on Monday, sailing on Wednesday for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington. The Union Steam Ship Company advise that the Waimarino is to leave Auckland on Friday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. Due at Bluff on the 30th. she will sail again the same day for Dunedin, Wellington and Auckland via ports. The Union Company's inter-colonial freighter Waikouaiti is scheduled to clear Lyttelton this evening for Bluff, where she is due on Friday morning, sailing on Saturday for Sydney direct. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Cornwall is to load at Bluff on January 10 for London, sailing for Port Chalmers about the 12th.

Messrs J. G. Ward and Company, local agents for the Federal Line, advise that the Huntingdon is to load for West Coast Yj.K. ports at Bluff from January 13 to January 15. She will sail finally from Bluff and is due at London in April. The Port Waikato is expected to arrive at Lyttelton on Friday from Sydney, via Auckland and Wellington. She is due at Dunedin about December 24.

The Waipahi arrived at Auckland on December 12 from Tonga and Fiji. After unloading about 8200 cases of fruit and a quantity of other Island produce she was despatched the same day for Newcastle, Sydney, Fiji and Nukualofa The vessel will return to Auckland from Nukualofa, via Suva. She is due at Nukualofa on January 1 and at Auckland on January 9. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Remuera left London on Friday afternoon for Wellington. Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Timaru with passengers, mails and cargo. She is due at Wellington on January 20 and at Port Chalmers about January 24.

The Port Melbourne, en route from New-castle-on-Tyne in ballast to New Zealand ports, passed the Cape of Good Hope on December 13. She is due on the coast about January 6

The Narbada left Singapore on December 13 after completing loading for Auckland. Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru. Dunedin and Bluff. She is due at Auckland on January 4. Now on her maiden voyage the Burns Philp new motor ship Malaita is due at Sydney from England. via Singapore, Rabaul and Solomon Islands, early in January. The vessel was built by Barclay, Curie and Company, at Whitewich, Glasgow, and she was launched last August. She is a vessel of about 3500 tons gross and her service speed is 12 knots. The passenger accommodation is specially designed for the tropics and includes cabin accommodation for 101 saloon passengers and steerage passengers. Cargo will be carried in five holds served by 10 electric winches and 15 derricks. also one 20 ton heavy left derrick. PERSONAL ITEMSMr J. W. McGill has been appointed second engineer on the Opihl, relieving Mr J. Stevenson. Captain G. W. Evans, who has been on holiday leave in Wellington, resumed command of the Opihi, relieving Captain C.
