FALSE STATEMENT

RELIEF WORKER FINED. (Per United Press Association.) Gisborne. December 6. Having registered firstly as a widower with two children and on different dates subsequently as a married man with a wife whose age decreased seven years in as many months, Hugh Connox- was charged before the Court this morning with making a false statement to the official engaged in the administration of the Unemployment Act for the purpose of obtaining employment. The inspector stated that accused was a single man with two children towards whose support he had not contributed a penny since he had been on relief work. He had been paid £72 during the past 12 months or £3B more than he would have received as a single man. Moreover, the taxpayers had to pay for the support of his children. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £5 and costs.
