BOXING

RAYNER—FRANKLIN CONTEST. The professional featherweight contest set down for Monday night between Clarrie Rayner (Blenheim) and Joe Franklin (Gisborne) is creating great interest. This contest should prove an exciting one as both are at the top of their form and are out to give the public the most thrilling bout yet staged in Invercargill. They will arrive in Invercargill by to-night’s express. Rayner will be accompanied by his manager and trainer, Mr M. N. Rayner. It is understood that George Singleton will be seconding Franklin. This fight should please every enthusiast as the boxing will be fast and clever with a possibility of a knock-out from either. HARVEY OUTPOINTS PETERSON. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, November 30. In a bout for the British heavyweight boxing championship Len Harvey outpointed Jack Peterson the holder. Harvey, the veteran of nearly 400 fights, has not yet been knocked out. He has been downed only five times in his career, including once in the first round of this fight. He was too experienced, the critics state, for Peterson. The Times says it was the greatest fight seen at the Albert Hall and ended with both fighting like madmen in the middle of the ring.
