SACRED CONCERT
REGIMENTAL BAND. Acceding to numerous requests that the Battalion Band should continue its popular Sunday night concerts, the management has arranged what should prove to be one of the best, if not the best, Sunday evening programmes ever given in the Civic Theatre. Special mention should be made of the appearance of the Roland Sextet, a family of talented musicians, born in Nev.’ Zealand, educated and trained in Vienna, and who toured extensively in England and the Continent, returning to New Zealand with a reputation as a party of first class musical entertainers on strings and piano. The sextet will be heard in several numbers, while solos will be given by Miss Stephanie Roland (’cellist) and Master Max Roland (violinist). At the last appearance of this talented family the Civic Theatre was packed beyond its seating capacity. Patrons will be wise in attending early to secure a good seat. Vocalists assisting are Mrs S. Batchelor, Miss Doris Prentice, Miss Dorothy Foothead and Mr J. Ferry. Novelty instrumental numbers will be given by Messrs G. Wybrow, W. McDougall, and E. Moore. The band will appear in the new uniforms, and will present a brilliant picture on the stage. Full band pieces include “Poet and Peasant” overture, and the March “The Victor’s Return.” The accompaniments for the evening will be played by Mr R. Henry and the stage arrangements are in the hands of Mr Alex Sutherland. Unusual heavy expense has been incurred in presenting this concert and the band management makes a special appeal that those desiring seats in the stalls and dress circle contribute not less than sixpence at the door.
