CHRISTCHURCH TRAMS ELECTION OF BOARD LABOUR’S POSITION (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, November 30. The Tramway Board elections were held to-day when there was a rather larger poll than usual. The counting is not yet completed and will not be completed before midnight. Present indications are either that labour will have a majority on the board or that the new board will consist of four Citizens’ Association members, four Labour members and one Independent. In the Spreydon-Addington area.Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., was elected by an overwhelming majority. For Riccarton-Findalton a badly split vote allowed Labour to win the seat. Avon-Brighton was won by Mr W. J. Walter (Independent) and HillsSumner by Mrs E. R. McCombs by a narrow majority over Mr W. J. Sim. In the central district where there are five seats, the Rev. J. K. Archer leads by several hundreds. Following him in close order - are five Citizens’ candidates and three Labour candidates, but the best that the Citizens candidates can hope for is to return four members.
