BURNSIDE STOCK SALE. SHEEP CHEAPER. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, October 25. There were good entries in all sections at to-day’s Burnside sales. Well finished bullocks formed the bulk of the yarding of 230 fat cattle and some very prime consignments were forward from South Otago and Waikouaiti districts. Extra choice heavy bullocks sold to £l3 17/6, prime heavy £lO to £l2, medium £8 to £9 10/-, light £5 10/- to £7 10/-, best heifers made to £8 5/-, medium £5 10/- to £6 10/-, light £4 10/- to £5, best cows to £7 12/6, others £4 to £5 10/-. In the yarding of 1200 fat sheep the quality generally was right up to if not better than the standard of recent sales. Some extra choice wethers and ewes were included. Shorn ewes occupied only a small proportion of the yarding of wethers, while prime were not so heavy and the demand was not keen. Values at the opening were on a par with last week for all classes, but gradually receded and closed at 2/- per head lower than the opening rates for all grades with the exception of extra prime heavy wethers which sold at 4/- per head less than last week’s rates. Extra prime heavy woolly wethers made to 34/6, prime heavy 31/- to 33/-, medium 27/- to 30/- and light 22/- to 26/-. Prime heavy young ewes sold to 29/—, medium 22/- to 25/-, light 18/- to 21/-, best shorn wethers sold to 28/-, medium 19/- to 24/-, light 16/- to 18/-.

Spring Lambs.—One hundred and seventy were penned. A steady sale resulted at an average of 2/- per head less than the extreme prices which ruled last week. Extra choice lambs sold to 28/-, prime 22/- to 25/-, medium and light 18/- to 21/-. There was an entry of 134 head of store cattle. This included several lines of three-year-old steers which under good competition sold to £6 14/-, the latter price being obtained for a pen of very forward conditioned and wellbred sorts. Other lines sold from £4 10/- to £6 2/- according to size and quality. A pen of yearling Jersey dairy heifers realized £2. Younger steers were a shade cheaper, while the market for boning cows on account of the short supply firmed considerably. The vealer section was practically neglected and the small entry submitted sold firm at late rates. The dairy entry was mostly of indifferent quality and sales were difficult to effect with the exception of good dairy heifers and young good conditioned cows. Top price obtained for this class was £6.

In +he pig section 120 fats were offered, comprising almost wholly porkers, with only an odd pen of light bacon pigs. The sale was an erratic one and late rates were maintained in some cases, but the bulk of the yarding was cleared at a reduction of fully 4/- per head on last sale rates. Best porkers sold to £2 and baconers £2 8/-. Store pigs attracted a large attendance of buyers and the number forward was hardly sufficient for requirements. A keen sale resulted. Good suckers realized from 14/- to 18/-.
