Injuries Prove Fatal. The grave injuries sustained by Mrs William Macalister, jun., when she fell through a skylight proved fatal, the patient dying in the Cairnsmore Hospital at 3.30 a.m. yesterday without regaining consciousness. The inquest was formally opened before the Coroner, Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., yesterday and adjourned sine die. ♦ * * * Outbreak of Fire. At 4.42 p.m. yesterday the Fire Brigade was summoned to J. E. Watson and Company’s manure store in Liddel street, where an outbreak bad been discovered in the roof. The fire was suppressed with little difficulty, only slight damage being sustained by the building. It is thought that a spark from a passing locomotive settled in the snow-boards on the roof. ♦ * * * Broadcasts Arranged. The Southland Radio Club has made arrangements to relay from 4YA Dunedin, commencing to-day and lasting for seven successive Saturdays, the broadcast of “We await your verdict’ transmissions. These broadcasts are of a high order and no doubt will be appreciated by the listeners of Southland. The broadcasts will take place from 9.30 till 10 p.m. » » * * Rear-Admiral's Appreciation. Yesterday the Mayor of Bluff, Mr T. F. Doyle, received the following letter from Rear-Admiral F. Burges Watson: “On conclusion of the Dunedin’s visit to Bluff I desire to express to you the thanks and appreciation of the officers and men of my flagship for the kindness and hospitality that has been shown to us by the citizens of your town, which has made our stay here such an enjoyable one.” # * * * Visiting Afternoon at Waikiwi School. Visitors’ afternoon at Waikiwi school was excellently attended by parents and friends of pupils and staff on Wednesday. The environmental work, modern physical education, musical games, displays of work and decorative art came in for much favourable commendation. The pupils as hosts and hostesses acquitted themselves in a capable manner and clearly revealed to the visitors what is being accomplished by modern educational methods.
