RIFLE SHOOTING
THE GORE CLUB. SEASON COMMENCED. The members of the Gore Defence Rifle Club commenced their season’s competitions on Saturday and Wednesday afternoons. A commencement was made with a sub-aggregate for a trophy presented by Mr D. S. Mackenzie, the sub-aggregate to consist of three shoots, 300 and 500 yards, 500 and 600 yards and 300 and 600 yards. The ranges for the week were the 300 and 500 yards distances. Weather conditions on the whole were good, but the Wednesday men had a troublesome wind to contend with. Best scores were made by two Saturday men, Riflemen H. Richardson and A. Hay, with a total of 94 each, H. Richardson filling top position with the lesser handicap. The spoons for range prizes were won by H. Windle at 300 yards with 47 (including one point handicap) and at 500 yards by H. Richardson with 48 (including one point handicap). The sub-aggregate will be continued next Saturday and Wednesday, the ranges being 500 and 600 yards.
