Tourist class ships have proved so popular that the New Zealand Shipping Company has converted the liner Ruahine to meet the ever-increasing public, demand. The Rotorua was the first ship of the line to become a one class ship, and the venture met with so much success that it was decided to convert the Ruahine, which had formerly carried cabin and third class passengers. A few years ago the Ruahine carried first, second, and third class passengers. and the cost of a trip from New Zealand to London ranged from 4,112 to £5O To-day the same comfortable travelling' conditions are offered at greatly reduced prices, and all passengers have the free run of the ship. For large and comfortable cabins in the A deck the single fare to England is no higher than £6B. Private bathrooms are attached to many of the cabins, and to-day the comforts are in no way less than they were some years ago, when the fares were very much higher.

Cabins are roomy and well ventilated, and in many bedsteads are to be found instead of bunks. There are single, two-berth, four-berth, and six-berth cabins, and in every case the comfort of the passengers has been carefully studied by the company. The fact that passengers have the free run of the ship is one of the most popular features of tourist class ships. The Ruahine has spacious decks ior games and promenading, and forward a large swimming pool is provided for the use of passengers during hot weather. The lounge, smokeroom, and cardroom are well furnished. and provide every comfort for passengers. The old second class lounge at the aft end of the promenade deck is now the children’s room. The Ruahine will leave Auckland on October 7 on her first trip to England since her conversion to tourist class. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
