SEVERE EARTHQUAKE. TWELVE DEATHS REPORTED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Rome, September 26. At least twelve were killed and over 150 injured by an earthquake in Central Italy. The mountain region of Abruzzi suffered most severely and two shocks at 4.36 in the morning lasted 30 seconds, the epicentre being in the districts of Castello di Sangro and Roccaroso. A house crashed, burying the sleeping occupants. Panic-stricken survivors rushed into the streets and took refuge in the fields.

The casualties were heaviest at the village of Lama de Peligni where seven were killed and 40 injured. Signor Mussolini rushed food and medical supplies to the stricken centres. The peasants declare that gas flames spurted from the cracks appearing after the shocks.
