RAND MINERS
ABANDONMENT OF STRIKE. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Cape Town, September 27. The executive of the Miners’ Union assured the Chamber of Mines that it would not sanction a strike until meetings had decided the procedure for the submission of representations to the managers regarding grievances. The chamber agreed that there would be no victimization or enforcement of the ten days’ penalty for each day lost, whereupon the strike was abandoned.
Sections of miners at Langlate and Simer Jack, in the central area of the Rand, struck because their requests for special consideration on certain jobs had not been acceded to. Since the abandonment of the gold standard the miners demanded to participate in the premium, which was refused on the ground that the premium was being devoted to the development of low grads ore and increased employment.
