SMOKE CONCERT

RIMU FOOTBALL, CLUB. (From Our Correspondent.) To mark the conclusion of a very successful season in which the Rimu Football Club succeeded in winning the second grade banner in the Town competitions, a smoke concert was held in Kennington hall on Tuesday evening, Mr T. Lyall (president) being in the chair. There was a good attendance including five officials of the S.R.F.U., while something of “an invasion” was staged by the arrival of a large number of guests from the Oteramika Club, Rimu’s near neighbours of the Southern district

Following the Loyal Toast, the presiden, Mr T. Lyall, proposed the toast of “the S.R.F.U.” Mr W. Baird who responded took the opportunity of presenting the second grade premiership banner to Mr G. Baird (captain). Other toasts honoured were:—“Referees’ Association” (Mr T. Meredith—Mr J. Ewart); “Southland Selectors (Mr W. Bulling—Messrs H. S. Strang and A. Mitchell); “Kindred Clubs” (Mr J. Cournane —Mr K. Johnston, Oteramika; A. Mitchell, Old Boys; T. Meredith, Waikiwi; H. Strang, Star; A. H. Courtis, Bluff); “Rimu Football Club” (Mr J. Ewart—Mr T. Lyall); “Junior Representatives” (Mr M. Cournane —Mr G. Baird); “Owner of the Ground” (Mr Henderson—Mr Hillis); “Rimu Club Supporters” (Mr Hazlett—Mr J. Watt); “Original Players” (Mr J. Watt— Messrs W. Bulling and M. Cournane); “Chairman” (Mr W. Bulling—Mr T. Lyall). Musical items were contributed by Mr A. McNaught (songs), C. Selby (pipe solos) and T. Meredith (humorous stories).
