CURE BY RADIO

WAVE-LENGTHS ENEMY OF BACILLI. London, September 16. Radiothermy healing by wireless waves is the latest method of combating disease, discovered by a Berlin doctor, Erwin Schliephake. The treatment consists of inserting the patient between metal plates, in which a powerful apparatus, similar to a wireless transmitter, sends waves through the body. Ultra-short waves, from two to 20 metres, are principally used, following the discovery of the principle that different cells respond to different wave-lengths. The treatment is said to be particularly effective for pulmonary abscesses, following pneumonia, and for pneumonic tuberculosis, certain forms of peritonitis, carbuncles and acute tonsilitis.

Dr. Russell, of Harley street, told the Daily Mirror that the waves also kill bacilli, especially diphtheria bacilli, though the wave-length for destroying one kind of bacilli does not affect others.

A wave-length of 3.2 metres acts on red-blood corpuscles, but does not affect germs, while a four-metre wavelength kills diphtheria germs,
