Colonel Roscoe Turner broke the west to east transcontinental . speed record by 13J minutes, negotiating the distance from Burbank (California) to Floyd Bennett Field here (2520 miles) in 10 hours 51 minutes. Turner flew a SOO-horsepower low _ wing monoplane, his top speed being 315 miles an hour.
