FALSE PRETENCE
ADMITTED TO PROBATION. (Per United Press Association.) Oamaru, September 26. At the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon Cicely King pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain £25 5/- from the National Insurance Company by false pretence. The evidence disclosed that her furniture was held under a hire purchase agreement, but King made a declaration that no other- person had an interest in the furniture, latex - admitting that cei*tain articles had been sold before the fire destroyed the house and contents. On the assessor’s list the furniture was valued at £259. The insurance was £2OO. As a result of King’s action she lost all the insurance.
The Magistrate (Mr Bundle) said that King had acted in a very foolish way. He was unable to think the case was one calling for imprisonment. King elected to be dealt with summarily and ■was convicted and admitted to probation for twelve months and ordered to pay the expenses of the prosecution, £6 18/9.
