WOMEN’S DIVISION

SOUTH HILLEND BRANCH. Tire monthly meeting of the South Hillend branch was held on September 19 when there was an attendance of IS members. The president, Mrs Wilson, referred to the loss the branch had sustained since the previous meeting, owing to the death of a very popular member, Miss Clark, and a motion of sympathy was passed with her relatives and also with Mrs W. Clark on the death of her mother. The report of the executive meeting held at Invercargill was considered at length and the president urged all members to take an active part in the forthcoming woollen display to be held in Invercargill. The competition, best article from 1/worth of material, was won by Mrs M. Wilson.

The president gave a demonstration on Solaqua work and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Herbert, Haynes and Co. for their kindness in providing the materials for the demonstration.

Hostesses for the meeting were Mesdames Kirkwood, Murphy and J. Saunders.

WENDON-WAIPOUNAMU BRANCH. (From Our Correspondent.) The Wendon-Waipounamu branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held the monthly meeting at the residence of Mrs Stevenson, “Willowbank.’’ After reading the creed Mr White welcomed Mrs Ridd. She also welcomed Mrs F. Tayles and Mrs Knowles and Miss Paterson. Sympathy was extended to Mrs Baird in the illness of her husband, also Mrs Rowe. The secretary was asked to write to them accordingly. Mrs White reported on the executive meeting at Invercargill. It was decided to donate a prize for the wool display at the summer show. After the usual business Mrs White gave a resume of proceedings at the annual conference in Wellington, which proved most interesting. Afternoon tea was subsequently handed round, and Mrs Mackay proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs White for her comprehensive and interesting report. She also thanked Mrs Stevenson for the use of her home.
