PREMIER SUED
ACTION IN SYDNEY VERDICT IN FAVOUR OF DEFENDANT ALLEGED DEFAMATION (United Press Assn.— Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 8.5 p.m.) Sydney, September 5. Mr John C. Eldridge, Labour candidate for the last election in the Premier’s constituency, Croydon, sued Mr B. S. B. Stevens, Premier of New South Wales, claiming £5OOO for defamation arising out of that campaign. Mr Eldridge alleged that his prospects were prejudiced by Mr Stevens s public comments linking him with a religious controversy which occurred while plaintiff was a member of the House of Representatives some time before. . . The jury to-day gave its verdict m favour of the defendant.
