COLAC BAY NOTES
W.D.F.U. BALL. (From Our Correspondent.) On Friday, September 1, the Colac branch of the W.D.F.U. held a ball in the Drill Hall, which was a huge success. The hall was decorated with red, white and blue streamers and greenery and the Colac Syncopators Orchestra supplied the music, while extras were played by Mrs J. Smith Wakapatu). Messrs D. Wadsworth and J. Blakie were M.C.’s. The winners of the various prize dances were: Monte Carlo Waltz, Mr Riddle and Mrs J. Riddle (Pahia); Lucky Spot One Step, Misses Norah Whittle, Iris Broomhall (Tihaka). Lucky Spot Waltz, Mr A. Wadsworth and Miss M. Hodges (Longwood); Mystery Dance, Mr M. Egerton and Miss C. Elderton. During the evening the following items were given: Songs, Mr Iwi Belsham who accompanied himself on the guitar; ukelele and guitar duet, Messrs Manny and Iwi Belsham; song, Master Dicky Wixon; humorous recitation, Miss D. Warneckie (Longwood); duet, Master Dicky Wixon and Mr Iwi Belsham (with guitar accompaniment). The winners of the various competitions were: Patchwork quilt, C. Prince (Ruahine), cake, Mr S. G. Burtenshaw (Colac), tea cosy, Miss J. L. Williams (Colac). Amongst the many there, were: Mesdames D. Wadsworth, I. After supper a dance was held, music being supplied by Mrs Broomhall, Tihaka. Mr and Mrs O’Toole, Invercargill are holidaying wtih Mr and Mrs H. Hinton, Colac. Miss L. Stuck, Waihoaka, is holidaying with- Miss C. Dawson, Wards Road. Miss N. Roderique, Papatotara, is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs E. Shore. Mr and Mrs Wills and family have returned to Ruahine after spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs Couling, Colac. Mr and Mrs E. Reece, jun., spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs Craine, Waikoura.
