THE PRESBYTERY

MONTHLY MEETING. VISITATION TO WINTON. The monthly meeting of the Southland Presbytery was held yesterday. The moderator, the Rev. A. Lindsay Miller, presided. Motions of sympathy with the relatives of the late Rev. George Lindsay and the late Mr J. M. McNaughton were carried and with Messrs W. J. A. McGregor, J. Walker and John Lennie in the deaths of relatives. The following was the finding of the Presbytery in regard to the recent visitation to the Winton charge: “That the Presbytery receive with deep gratitude to God the report of the successful work that is being done in His name in the Winton charge. That the Presbytery expresses its high appreciation of the organizing ability, acceptable pulpit work and pastoral faithfulness of the minister, the Rev. A. Gardner, and also of the devoted enthusiasm. with which the Church Session, Deacons’ Court and leaders in the various departments work in harmony with him. That the Presbytery take the opportunity of thanking the congregation for that practical response to the efforts made on their behalf, which shows itself in loyal support of the work of Christ, both within the charge and in the wider field beyond. That the Presbytery commend the minister and all his helpers, with the congregation, to the continued grace and mercy of God, and pray that Christ the Great Head of the church, will ever more and more win glory for Himself within and shower blessings upon, the Winton charge.” The following motion, notice of which had previously been given by the Rev. A. G. Mackintosh Carter, was carried: “The Presbytery of Southland desires with all courtesy to inform the General Assembly’s Youth Committee and the director of youth work that some dissatisfaction has been felt locally with regard to doctrinal statements contained in the current Bible class syllabus and it suggests to them the strong desirability of a very watchful eye being kept on interdenominational publications issued by the council for our youth so that our Presbyterian doctrinal standards shall be adequately safeguarded.”
