ASSESSOR RESIGNS

CONCILIATION COUNCIL. UNUSUAL SITUATION. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, August 30. An unusual situation arose in the Conciliation Council proceedings this morning, when Mr J. Roberts, an assessor for the Christchurch Saddle, Harness and Collarmakers’ Union, declined to enter into agreement on the basis of rate of wages at 1/9 per hour for journeymen. Mr Roberts resigned his post as assessor and a new assessor was hurriedly sent for, following which a full agreement was reached. The other union assessors agreed to the employers’ offer of 1/9, which Mr Roberts declared was ridiculous.
