PLUNKET SOCIETY

DIPTON BRANCH. To augment the funds of the Dipton Plunket Society a successful “bring and buy” sale was held in the hall on Saturday. The result achieved was very gratifying and far exceeded anticipations. The tea tables were in the capable hands of Mesdames G. McLeod, C. McDonald and F. Gerrard. A decorated birthday cake was presented by the president, Mrs Murray Menzies, the fourth birthday of the branch synchronizing with the sale. The stallholders were Mesdames Cunningham, McCurdy, Sinclair and Palmer while Mesdames H. Shand and W. Harrison took charge of the competitions. In the evening an enjoyable social was held and a splendid musical programme was contributed by Mesdames Aitchison (Invercargill) and A. Lindsay, Misses N. Mitchell and M. Mcßae and Mr Adams. Miss I. McCurdy was the accompanist. Music for the dance was supplied by the Dipton orchestra comprising Mrs Soper, Messrs R. and A. Gerrard and C. McDonald, while Mr F. Finlayson gave selections on the bagpipes. The winners of the competitions were Mr G. Buchanan, Mr Watt, Mrs Nelson, Mrs Palmer, S. Smith and D. Shand. Mr P. Goble was M.C. On behalf of the committee Mrs McRae thanked all those who had helped towards such a deserving cause, as the services of the Plunket nurse, she said, were proving of inestimable benefit to mothers throughout the district. The sum of £24 was realized, thus placing the branch on a sound financial footing for the year.
