MAYOR’S RELIEF FUND. FURTHER ARRANGEMENTS TO BE MADE. A meeting of those interested in the holding of an antique exhibition for the benefit of the Mayor’s Relief Fund and of All Saints’ Church, Gladstone, was held last evening, his Worship the Mayor, Mr John Miller, presiding over a fair attendance. “It was our original idea that we should hold an exhibition of antiques on the lines of those in northern cities,” said the Rev. K. D. AndrewsBaxter. . “We know that there are many good antiques in this city. . By antiques we mean not merely antique objects, but pictures and works of art. It is not intended to confine the effort merely to exhibiting, but also to running competitions, providing afternoon tea, and so on. I am sure that such an event would be greatly appreciated by the people here, not only because of its worthy object, but also because of its cultural value.” The chairman agreed that the inclusion of pictures was an excellent idea, as there were many people who would be only too pleased to lend pictures and perhaps sell them, a commission to be given to the promoters of the project. Mr Denniston Cuthbertson expressed disappointment at the small attendance. After some further discussion in which those present expressed entire favour with the project and gave voice to the opinion that it only required further publicity to awaken general interest, it was decided on the motion of Mr Cuthbertson that a further meeting be held on August 31,
