Costarred with the popular Fairbanks in this romantic story of post-revolution-ary days, is Nancy Caroll, always a film favourite, and who has one of her greatest roles in this adventure story. A third member of the big cast is Lilyan Tashman, known as one of the best-dressed women in Hollywood, whose characterizations are always colourful and forceful. A long list of supporting players includes: Earle Fox, Frank Reicher, Betty Gilette, Richard Alexander and Maurice Black, “Scarlet Dawn is one of the most pretentious films ever made by young Fairbanks. It deals with the adventures of a young Russian nobleman who is exiled by the revolution, and who is saved from execution by a servant girl. • * * * No more telling indictment of a social wrong has ever been made than “I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang,” which will be presented for one night only at the Civic Theatre. Based on the life-history of Robert E. Burns, the film exposes in an intensely moving and dramatic manner the evils attached to the convict system of certain American States. But the film is said to be far more than a protest against human cruelty masquerading as justice; it is a thrilling drama, full of incident and suspense. Paul Muni has the principal role. 1 * * » • “Men of To-morrow,” is a sympathetic story of a young couple who leave college and marry on insufficient funds and only the enthusiasm of youth to back them up. It is said to be the first authentic picture actually filmed at Oxford University, and the cast includes Merle Oberon, Joan Gardner, Emlyn Williams, Robert Donat, John Traynor, Esther Kiss and Annie Esmond. This picture comes to The Civic soon. When a lion knocks a man down it isn’t exactly an every day occurrence, but when a man knocks down a lion—well, that’s news, and that’s exactly what Wallace Ford did in a scene from “Central Park,” in which he is cofeatured with Joan Blondell. This scene, though not originally intended, was made by accident, and adds to the amusement of "Central Park,” which is coming shortly to The Civic Theatre. Do You Know That— Gloria Swanson has the tiniest feet in filmdom—her shoes are “small” 2; John Halliday, who has a part with her in “Perfect Understanding,” was one of the founders of Goldfield, Novada; Laurence Oliver’s father, a clergyman, persuaded him to become an actor; Cyril Gardner, the director, entered the film business because he didn’t think he was brainy enough to become a law clerk; Genevieve ’Tobin was at school in Paris when the'Germans neared it in 1914 and haA to flee to England; Nora Swinburne, who plays with Gloria Swanson in her new picture, had her first stage appearance as a dancer in the Russian Ballet?
