OBITUARY

MR J. T. MOWAT. (Per United Press Association.) Blenheim, August 7. The death is announced of Mr John Tinline Mowat, aged 70 years, known as the “Kindly Giant.” He was a member _of a well-known Marlborough family and for the last two years was honorary secretary of the Blenheim Relief Distress Committee. He also had full control of the relief depot. He was educated at Nelson College, where he had a good athletic record. He was an ex-Nelson and Marlborough Rugby representative and for some years worked on the Altimarlock family’s station. He then visited America and was later Inspector of Stock at the Falkland Islands. In later years until his retirement he was in the land agency business at Blenheim. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mesdames L. H. Clouston (Springlands), A. Goyder (Spring Creek), and two sons, Roy (Wellington) and Alexander (Mokau).
