TRANSPORT SERVICES
AN INTERESTING JUDGMENT.
(Per United Press Association.)
Wellington, July 24. The considerations which should guide transport licensing authorities in dealing with applications for licenses in respect of motor passenger transport services competing with railways, are discussed in an important decision which has been given by the Transport Appeal Board. The appeal in question was the Government Railways Board against the decision of the No. 5 Licensing Authority, granting a license to Hodsons Pioneer Motor Services Ltd., to operate a service between Wanganui and New Plymouth. The specific relief . asked for was that the number of trips on week days be reduced. . . The decision, which is in favour of the Railways Board is that of the majority of the Appeal Board of which Mr Justice Frazer is chairman, and is the first to be given since the expiration of the initial period of “automatic” licensing.
