EMPIRE WIRELESS
VAGARIES OF BEAM SYSTEM. NEW ZEALAND’S POSITION. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, July 12. The vagaries of the Empire beam are disconcerting the Broadcasting Corporation, Reports show that the changed wave length has improved the Australian reception, but New Zealand does not participate, though West Africa’s 25 metres transmitted on a new aerial design hits New Zealand on the reverse side after a long peregrination. Similarly, Canada participates in the Australian programmes which are projected westerly, though it is the 25 metres broadcast which is received and not the expected 19. Beginning to-day the engineers will experiment with a 49 metres wave length to Australia in order to ascertain if New Zealand is embraced.
