A new Atlantic depth of 44,000ft—almost nine miles—has been discovered by a scientific expedition directed by Dr Paul Bartsch, at about 75 miles north of Puerto Rico. This discovery sets a new world’s record for the measuring of ocean depths. Previously the greatest known depth was reported by the German cruiser Emden—--31,416ft in the Pacific between Celebes ,-and Japan.
