EUCHRE TOURNAMENT.

The prize-winners of the drill hall fortnightly euchre were: Ladies, Mr: Egerton, who had to play off with Mesdames McCulloch and Coulston, while Messrs Hinton and Lee had to play off for the men’s prize, the latter winning the prize. On Wednesday, July 5, the “Sunshine Dance Committee” held an enjoyable dance in the Tihaka Hall. Music was supplied by Messrs Egerton and McKay, while Mr P. Blakie played extras on the baerpipes. Mr J. Blakie acted as M.C. The sunper was donated by Mrs A. Broomhall (Tihaka). Amongst those present were Mesdames Broomhall, Maley, Egerton. Wilkinson. Whittington (Christchurch), Misses Kelland (2), Woodward (2), Hodges (2), Crcngle (2), Wilkinson (2), Robinson, Dawson, Broomhall. Kenneally, Messrs Te Au, Belsham, Blakie (2), Lapham. Woodward (2), Egerton (3), Kelland (2), Maley, Robinson, McKay, Hodges, Blackmore, Dallas. Mrs Whittington, of Christchurch, is holidaying with her sister, Mrs Wilkinson, Longwood. W.D.F.U. At the monthly meeting of the W.D.F.U. the president, Mrs Wadsworth, presided over a good attendance of members. After the usual business had been dealt with Mrs Corchran judged the articles made from sugar bags, Mrs S. Burtenshaw and Miss G. Pont being the winners. Mrs J. H. Dawson won the patchwork quilt. On Friday, July 7, the relief workers held a dance in the Drill Hall in aid of the gumboot fund. Music was supplied by Messrs Gregg (piano), McKay (violin), C. Goodwillie (violin) and Beadle (drums and effects). Mrs H. Valintine played extras. The winner of the turkey gobbler was Mr H, Shields. Messrs R. and T. Te Au acted as M.C’s.
