PERSONAL. (From Our Correspondent.) Mr W. A. McCaw, Invercargill, paid a short business trip to the island last week, arriving on Friday and leaving on Saturday. Progressive League. The monthly meeting of the Stewart Island Progressive League was held on Friday evening, June 23. Mr J. Sloan presided over the following members: Mrs C. C. Thompson, Miss Methven, Mr H. Pollock jun and Mr C. Smith. The secretary reported that he had written to the secretary of the South Island Tourist League asking for full information concerning the amount of advertising Stewart Island would receive for the three guineas subscription of the Progressive League. A reply had been received stating that at the moment the Tourist League was marking time because a proposition had been received from the transport proprietors which would require close consideration and if adopted would mean a radical change in policy. If these proposals proved acceptable to the executive of the Tourist League, it was hoped to be able to forward them for the next meeting of the Progressive League. After some discussion it was decided to ask Mr G. M. Turner, who is going to Dunedin shortly, to call upon the secretary of the Tourist League and discuss the matter fully. A member asked if it was the intention of the league to endeavour to get the limits of the tourist launches extended because if so the matter should be put in hand immediately to be in time for the coming season. During the discussion it was stated that it would be unwise to proceed without obtaining the views of the launch owners. It was finally decided to hold the question over pending an application from the launch owners concerned. Church of England.
