LAMB PRICES.
To the Editor. Sir, —If the intention of your recent correspondent “John Bull” was to attack the Southland Frozen Meat Company for some grievance fancied or otherwise the letter doubtless served the purpose to his satisfaction. If the intention was to make a comparison between the merits of Borthwicks and other Southland fat stock buyers, why not state the whole of the facts? Until the spectacular and unexpected rise in wool and meat came at the beginning of this month the Borthwick Company was paying exactly the same prices as other operators. If the Borthwick Company has been the chief buyer since then it is just a question of opinion respecting values. Borthwicks alone, or any other buyer for that matter, cannot put prices at public auction to where they are. It takes at least two bidders to do this and give other buyers the credit that is due to them for their share of the better local market prices, among whom is the Southland Frozen Meat Company.—l am, etc., FACTS.
