CARGO TONNAGE
RATIONALIZATION PLANS
DROPPED.
(United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10.45 p.m.) London, June 19. The Council of the Chamber of Shipping decided not to proceed with the rationalization proposals owing to insufficient support.
The Chamber of Shipping invited shipowners to consider before a meeting of the council on June 16 two projected schemes to rationalize cargo' tonnage. It is intended by a national plan to stimulate the scrapping of tonnage and by an international plan to encourage the further laying up of surplus tonnage. The chamber also aimed at reducing freights to a more remunerative but only moderately profitable level.
