WAYLAID BY NATIVES
POLICE PARTY ATTACKED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.0 p.m.) Sydney, June 14. A message from Bulolo states that Patrolman Mack and a party of New Guinea police, who were pursuing escaped prisoners, were attacked by other natives. The latter had already killed the escapees and thought the police were a punitive expedition to avenge this crime. They were routed and given a sharp lesson, although during the scrimmage four arrows struck Mack and a police boy was hit. Their wounds are not serious.
