DOG TRIALS

WINTON CLUB SOUTHLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS W. E. HAZLETT WINS LONG PULL The Winton Collie Dog Club’s annual meeting was continued yesterday under favourable conditions. There was a very large attendance of the public. _ The day was devoted to the Long Pull All Comers’ event, which carried with it the Southland Championship. There was the very satisfactory entry of 30 dogs for the event, the entry being as representative as it was large. While some of the dogs proved scarcely up to championship standard the work of many was exceptionally fine, particularly when the somewhat wayward nature of the sheep is taken into consideration. W. E. Hazlett added to his long list of successes this season by annexing the event (and with it the handsome challenge cup attached to it) with a clear margin from all other competitors, Glen securing 45 points out of a possible of 51. J. B. Queale’s Trim was second with 39 points, and John Anderson’s Toby Again third with 38 points. J. B. Purdue’s Jock and John Anderson’s Toby Junior tied for fourth place. A sheep guessing competition was won by Mr T. McGillivray, and Mrs J. Howard, who guessed 89ilb, the correct weight being 901 b. The open huntaway, which is also a Southland championship event, will be decided to-day. Details are as follows:—
