ARRESTED AS A SPY

CRICKETER’S ORDEAL. Roy Sheffield, the Essex wicketkeeper, who returned home a few weeks ago from South America, where he has been spending the winter, was arrested in Para on suspicion of being a spy. Mr Sheffield stated that, after staying on a ranch near the Bolivian border, where he did a good deal of cattle-punching, he was asked to take some papers to a Bolivian official some distance down the river. He delivered them through a messenger, but at the ext stop was detained and taken before a military court. After being questioned he was released. Mr Sheffield played cricket at Buenos Aires, making scores of 95 and 60, and was appointed umpire for the North v. South match, the most im« portant in Argentina.
