NEW ZEALAND LEGION

MEETING AT RIVERTON. A successful meeting of the New Zealand Legion was held at Riverton last evening, when, despite the unfavourable weather, there was a satisfactory attendance of about 40. Dr N. G. Trotter presided.. Addresses were given by Messrs W. Macalister and F. G. Hall-Jones on the aims and objects of the Legion. The speakers dealt with many of the defects in the legislative system of to-day, and explained the Legion’s attitude towards securing a better form of government. Dr C. H. Gordon said those persent agreed with the aims and objects of the Legion, and he moved that a centre be formed at Riverton with Mr John Crawford as convener. The motion was seconded by Mr J. A. C. Mackenzie and carried unanimously. After Dr Trotter had proposed a vote of thanks to the speakers, a good number enrolled as members. At the Winton meeting this evening the speakers will be Messrs W. Macalister, S. M. Macalister and W. Grieve.
