LOCAL AUTHORITIES. CAPITAL VALUES COMPARED. Interesting figures showing the rateable capital value of contributory local authorities in the Southland Hospital Board’s district were supplied by the board’s secretary at yesterday's meeting in connection with the levies for the year ending March 31, 1934. In the following table the rateable capital value as at March 31, 1933, is given with ihe value at March 31, 1932, in parentheses. In the course of a brief discussion it. was mentioned by the

secretary that the capital value in each instance was obtained from figures supplied by the Valuer-General who as a rule worked on the previous year’s valuation. The table is as follows:—
