EXPLOITATION BY FOREIGNERS. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, May 10. In connection with Japanese competition in Australia, 25,000 have signed a Manchester petition pressing Parliament to take prompt and effective measures to prevent the exploitation of Empire markets by foreigners manufacturing on a low standard of living, making it impossible for Britishers to compete.
The Manchester Guardian reported that close study by the Manchester Chamber of Commerce revealed that Japanese competition in the Australian market was very alarming. Australia at present was Lancashire’s second biggest market. A special committee had compiled exhaustive and constructive reports which were being conveyed to the Government.
