' ' She afterwards loads for the Home market and will be in port over the week-end. sailing about Tuesday for Timaru in continuation. The schooner Britannia arrived from Stewart Island at 1.10 p.m. yesterday, and sailed to return to the Island at 3.10 p.m. S The Shell Oil Company's motor tanker Paua's next visit will be in the first week in June, when she will arrive from Wellington with a cargo of case and bulk spirit for discharge. It is not now known when the vessel will get away for Bluff. The shipbuilding and engineering industries in the North of Ireland passed through a year of great difficulty. At the end of December last there was not a single new ship under construction at Belfast, and twenty-four building berths in the two Belfast shipyards were lying idle. The year was the worst period for shipbuilding in the history of Belfast. Only one small vessel of 5,740 tons was launched, the fruit carrier Erin, built by Messrs Workman, Clark. In the previous year 79,434 tons of new shipping were launched, and the year before 168,201 tons, while the average annual output for the past decade is 115,000 tons. Captain W. Troup, senior harbour pilot at Sydney, after twenty-eight years’ service with the State Navigation Department, retired from the service on April 26. Captain Ferguson will succeed Captain Troup as senior harbour pilot, which position Captain Troup held for three years. Brief reference is made in the Cunard Company’s annual report to the suspension of work on the mammoth liner for the company. The structure and machinery of the new vessel, No. 534. as she is called, work on which was suspended in December, 1931, have, adds the report, been maintained in perfect condition. Negotiations which may lead to a resumption of work are said to be in progress. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s Turaklna is to leave London about May 18 with cargo for Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. She is due at Lyttelton about June 27. Personal. Captain Coldicutt has resumed command of the Awahou after holidays. Captain J. G.
