ABOUT PEOPLE

Mr T. H. Watson travelled to Wellington by the express yesterday morning. The Hon. Robert Kennedy leaves Dunedin to-day for Invercargill to preside at the quarterly sitting of the Supreme Court which commences on Monday. Mr W. J. Tattersficld leaves by the express this morning for Christchurch to attend the Canterbury College capping ceremony there, he having completed his B.E. degree. Messrs T. Newburgh and A. S. Nicholls, of Christchurch, arrived in Invercargill yesterday on a brief business visit. They return this morning. They were guests at the Grand Hotel during their stay. At the annual meeting of the Invercargill branch of the League of Nations Union last night, the president, Mr W. Macalister, referred to the irreparable loss suffered by the union during the year in the passing of the vice-president, the late Mr T. S. Tomlinson. “He had been connected with the union for some years.” said Mr Macalister, “and I don’t think there was anyone in the union who showed more willingness to help—it did not matter what it was. In that way he was extremely helpful. A resolution of sympathy was forwarded to Mrs Tomlinson by the council, but as a mark of esteem for our late vicepresident I would ask you to stand in silence.” Members paid this tribute to the deceased’s memory.
