WOMEN’S DIVISION.

The annual meeting of the Mataura branch of the Women s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday, Mrs W. Burns occupying the chair. There was a good attendance of members present. The annual report stated that the membership had decreased slightly, but funds were in a sound position in spite of hardship and depression. The fourth birthday party of the division was held in the Stewart Hall and was largely attended by members and their friends. The committee desired to thank Mr Hargest for auditing the books ana the Press for giving publicity to meetings. Several executive meetings were held at Invercargill and attended by the president, secretary and appointed delegates. In moving the adoption of the report, the president stated that it was somewhat disappointing to note the small decrease in membership, otherwise everything in connection with the branch was in a healthy state. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs C. E. Ho worth; vice-presidents, Mesdames C. D. McConnell and R. A. Dickie; secretary, and treasurer, Mrs A. H. Cockbum; advisory members, Mesdames W. Burns and W. Pryde; committee, Mesdames W. Clearwater, A. Coster, A. Coombes, W. Pryde, R. Pryde and T. Major. Highland Society. The monthly meeting of the Mataura Highland Society was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Friday evening, Chief W. Buchanan presiding over a good attendance of clansfolk. The evening took the form of cards and dancing.
