CRIME EPIDEMIC

TAXI DRIVER HELD UP. ATTEMPT AT ROBBERY. (Per United Press Association-) Dunedin, April 21. The latest development in the crime epidemic is an attempt by two men to rob a taxi-driver, Thomas Hyde, in a lonely road near Waikari last night. Hyde was engaged by two young men to drive them about a mile past Waikari and in a lonely spot he was ordered by one who presented a revolver to get out, but while the other man was between the taxi-man and the weapon and engaged in searching his pockets Hyde struck out, whereupon both decamped. They got nothing but a match-box, though Hyde had £6 on him. The police have a good description of both young men.
