• LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB. (From Our Correspondent.) On Tuesday evening the opening social of the Literary and Debating Club was held in the hall. There were a large number of members present and a pleasant time was spent with musical items, games and competitions. The president, Mr E. Hargest, thanked all those who had helped in any way and hoped that the coming session would be a successful one. Personal. Mr and Mrs J. Robbie, Miss Margaret Robbie and Mr Keith Robbie spent Easter at the Rocks, Riverton. Mrs T. McKinnel left on Thursday for Temuka. Miss Noele Saxelby spent the Easter holidays at Stewart Island. Mr T. Irving, of Nelson, is spending his annual leave at Woodlands. Miss M. Kane has been visiting Otautau for the’Easter holidays. Mrs Enwood, of Temuka, and Mrs Black, of Rakaia, are at present the guests of Mr and Mrs Pye, station house. Mr and Mrs Greenwood and family, of Mornington, Dunedin, were the guests of Mr and Mrs E. Hargest over the week-end. Mrs G. Hales, Queenstown, was the guest of Mr and Mrs Hannan for a few days last week. Mr and Mrs H. Milliken have returned from a holiday in Temuka. Miss I. Ramsay,’ Dunedin, was the guest of Mrs John Macdonald last week. Miss Margaret Anderson left on Tuesday for Tokanui. Basketball. There recently has been formed in Woodlands a basketball team. An enthusiastic number of players got together and called a meeting at whicli a team was chosen and several practices have since taken place. On Wednesday afternoon they held an opening day in the Public Hall when an enjoyable series of games took place. The weather did not permit games outside. Teams and their supporters came from Kennington and Rimu. The president, Mrs Hargest, welcomed the visitors and thanked Mr W. Bell for coming along, also Mr Cook who had come to referee the games. Mr W. Bell, vice-president, also spoke. Mr Cook (Rimu), replied on behalf of the visitors. Golf Club. The Woodlands Golf Club held its opening day recently when visitors were present from Invercargill and Wyndham. There have been quite a number of improvements made to the links by the members, including a club house. Mr E. Hargest, the president, in declaring the season open, said how pleased he was to see so many present. He welcomed the visitors and hoped that they had had an enjoyable afternoon. Mr J. P. Butler (Invercargill), and Mr Rice (Wyndham), returned thanks for the hospitality extended to them. Dance At Myross Bush. The Sports Club at Myross Bush held a most successful euchre tournament and dance recently. Mrs A. R. Dawson won the ladies’ prize and Mr Charles Henderson the men’s, while consolation prizes were won by Miss G. Findlay and Mr K. Hazlett. After supper the dance was held, music being supplied by Miss Molly Chapman and Mr Butler. Miss Butler played an extra. Mr J. McKenzie acted as M.C.
