COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER

My Dearest Cousins, — The Secret?—Well, haven’t you already discovered it? Of course you have—one of the nicest presents the pupils of the Isabella Dryburgh School could possibly give us—a picture of a corner of the classroom, with pupils and some of their work in it, as well as some of their treasured possessions—their piano, their pictures (including one of the late Miss Dryburgh after whom the school was named), their gramophone (we gave them that!), and the most cherished possession of all—their teacher! It is a very good photograph of them all, and you can see that the air is all full of happiness and loving kindness. It seems to me that seldom have these things come out so well in a photograph.

It was a very thoughtful act to send me this photograph, and it will have a place of honour on my walls. The inscription under the photograph accompanied it, and I wanted you to share it with me,, letter for letter.

That reminds me that I wanted to tell you that I was speaking to Miss Valentine, the Supervisor of Special Classes, on her annual visit from Wellington. As most of you will remember, she it was who selected the pupils for the school, and she told me that she was amazed at the progress that has been made. She spoke to me about it very enthusiastically indeed, my Cousins, and when she said how pleased she was with the work that has been done already, I simply swelled with pride and satisfaction. I hope you are fashioning a very wonderful Easter Page for next week— I feel you are putting a very special part of yourselves into it. My love to you all— COUSIN BETTY.
