WINTON’S WATER SCHEME.
To the Editor.
Sir,—l notice by your issue of April 3 that the councillors of Winton intend to try and force their water scheme upon the Main street ratepayers. I note that Cr. Watson seems to think some of the councillors are cold footed, when not falling in with his views. I would like to ask why this wild outburst, since our Mayor has been laid aside by accident. Can Councillor Watson tell the ratepayers just how many deputations and requests he has received from the Main street ratepayers to warrant the councillors delving into a scheme that is far beyond their ability? As for the chairman’s recommendation “that more definite information should be procured and set before the incoming council” etc. Just let me whisper here, Mr Editor, that the incoming council will be able to take care of themselves and probably will have a more up-to-date and less expensive brain wave for the' Main rtreet ratepayers. I appreciate Cr. Lilico’s remarks as this water scheme does not seem to be on a sound basis. Already in one week the price has increased from £5OO to £BOO. I gave the council more credit than to bring such a project forward at a time like this and without a Mayor to guide it.—l am, etc., "RAFFERTY RULE.”
