SOUTHLAND RADIO CLUB

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Southland Radio Club was held on Monday evening when the following were present: Messrs A. W. Jones (in the chair), D. McEwan, T. H. Watson, J. Pickard, H. Aitken, F. Simpson, A. E. Jordan and the secretary, Mr W. R. Mabson. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mr Fraser who has been laid aside with illness, and the hope was expressed that he would soon be restored to good health. The chairman reported that the broadcast of the concert given by Mr Kennedy Black’s pupils had been highly successful. Mr Aitken reported having visited the station and stated that everything had been very satisfactory. It was decided to apply to the board to try to procure an additional electric motor as a standby in case of a breakdown with the existing motor. Mr Jordan reported that the land line from the Majestic had now been connected to the studio of Messrs McCracken and Walls. The members present expressed their approval of the re-appointment by the Government of the president, Mr A. W. Jones, as one of the South Island representatives on the Advisory Council of the Broadcasting Board. A letter was received from the First Church authorities and it was decided to make a charge of £2 2/- to each church that has its services broadcast. The secretary reported that the membership roll was still growing and that there was a credit balance of £35 8/7. In regard to birthday announcements, it was decided that in future these must be sent to the secretary, and that only the birthdays of children of members would be broadcast, no charge to be made. It was decided to send congratulations to Mr Boyens on his promotion. The members paid tributes to his assistance to the club since its inception and expressed their regret on his leaving Invercargill. It was decided to hold the annual meeting of members on May 15.
