The waterfront again presented a busy appearance yesterday and work was carried out under ideal weather conditions, save for a brief interval when a shower fell. As a result of operations it was expected the Rotorua would finish working last night. She is timed to sail for Napier at 2 a.m. to-day. The scow Ngahau completed discharging her cargo of motor spirit at 4 p.m. yesterday and sailed a couple of hours later to return to Lyttelton. The local agents. Messrs J. G. Ward & Co., advise that the Federal Steam Navigation Company's ship Somerset is due to arrive at Bluff from Oamaru on March 30 to load, leaving again for Timaru on April Advice has been received through the local agents of the Union Steam Ship Co. that the Wainui sailed from Melbourne at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. She is due at Bluff on Monday morning, sailing again in the afternoon for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington. The local agents (Messrs Henderson and Co. Ltd.) report that the Commonwealth and Dominion Line Ltd’s motor vessel Fort Gisborne is expected to arrive at Bluff from Lyttelton about March 9 to load frozen meat, dairy produce and general cargo for the United Kingdom and Continental ports. The same company’s motor vessel Port Dunedin is also due to arrive from Tinr.aru on March 31, sailing again for Lyttelton on April 3. . To take delivery of ’ the Union Company’s former cargo steamer, Waitemata, Mr K. Ishibashl. the Sydney representative of the Yamashiti Shipping Company, which recently purchased her, arrived in Auckland on February 13. A Japanese crew for the Waitemata is being brought to Auckland by the Ryoka Maru, which is due early this week and she will sail for Japan before the end of the mot th. The Ryoka Maru is to load 8000 tons of scrap iron at New Zealand ports. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's chartered steamer Highland Warrior is expected to leave Lyttelton this afternoon, being due to arrive at Bluff to-morrow afternoon to load frozen me it and dairy produce, sailing again on Tuesday for Wellington. During the week ended January 6, 1099 vessels, representing 821,867 net register tons, used the Port of London. 372 vessels (626.771 net register tons) were to and from Colonial and Foreign ports and 727 vessels (195.096 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. Twenty-six vessels, totalling 280,143 gross register tons, used the Tilbury passenger landing stage during the month of December, 1932. Altogether 2,237 passengers were embarked or disembarked at the stage, in addition to baggage and mails. Eight vessels discharged meat cargoes in the Port of London during the week ended January 6; seven from Australia and New Zealand, the s.s Rangitlki. Maloja. Port Adelaide, City of Delhi. Ulysses. Buteshire and Port Auckland and one from South America the s.s. Highland Chieftain. Altogether 254,000 carcasses of lamb and mutton, 41,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork and rabbits and approximately 20,000 packages of sundries were distributed to the London market and throughout the country or placed into cold storage.
