CLIFDEN NOTES
DISTRICT PICNIC. At a recent meeting of the local picnic committee over which Mr T. Cochrane presided, it was decided to hold a picnic next Wednesday. Mr R. Lawson, jun., was appointed secretary. Approximately £lO has been acquired from local residents and everything points to the picnic being a success. A meeting of farmers was held in the local hall on Thursday last. Various farmers’ problems and difficulties were discussed and likely remedies which could be applied. Speakers during the evening included Messrs Edie, Fraser and Burtell. School Committee. A full attendance of members of the local school committee was held on Monday, Mr J. C. Gardner presiding. A letter was received from the Unemployment Bureau offering the labour of two men for a week. It was decided that a ton of cement be procured and sufficient gravel to lay a block of concrete in the school grounds.
