At a special meeting of the Timaru Wharf Labourers’ Union, the following resolution was passed: “That, owing to the Government increasing the exchange rate, which will increase the cost of living by approximately 15 per cent., and considering that the shipping companies have increased the cargo and passengei’ rates by that amount, we ask the YVaterside Workers’ Federation immediately to approach the employers of waterfront labour, demanding an increase of wages equivalent to the increase of 15 per cent, in the cost of living.”
