South is playing Four Spades, West leads Ace and King of Diamonds and East takes the third lead with the Queen, after which he leads the 6 of Spades. Can South make his contract? When East leads the Spade, his best lead, and the second lead discloses West’s shortage of Spades, South knows East holds Q-9 of trumps. He must ensure that this combination can be led through, and he must rid his hand of two trumps, so be trumps the winning Clubs twice. This is the Double Coup. The play is as follows:
